New GPS system will save fuel for the airlines!

A new satellite drive network called NextGen plan can enable the airlines to save tremedously on fuel usage and costs. Since world war II, the airline industry has been reliant on a system that forces the airlines to take longer flights, not quite the straight line to the destination. This new NextGen plan of satellite networks will help GPS enabled planes to fly in a much more straight line!
According to the FAA, this project will save up to $10 billion dollars annually with the 3.3 billion gallons of fuel usage saved! Wow! The slight drawback is that the NextGen will cost about $35 billion dollars to install and implement. But the return in investment in 3-5 years will be well worth the effort! This will help America and other countries free our dependency on buying oil from rogue countries and/or terroristic countries. Southwest airlines has already implemented a plan to equip their planes with GPS tracking systems. They are spending $175 million dollars to be fully compliant in a few years for this new NextGen system. However, the governement indicated that we wouldn't expect the industry to be fully using this system no earlier than 2020's. I don't think this is soon enough! Other fuel cost savings airlines are already doing: 1. Southwest airlines already is slowing their planes' flight speed to save on fuel costs. 2. Air New Zealand is retrofitting their jets with zonal dryers that will save 500,000 gallons of fuel per year! It is good news that the airline industry is preparing some big plans to save on fuel and costs in the near future!
